Why Locate is So Fast


Locate is a command used to find files on linux. It is extremely fast.
Locate is fast because it uses a database which is compressed. Run updatedb to update the database that locate thrives off.
It should be called something more specific, such as locate.elf. See also The Stupidity of Files Without Extensions
